Heritage Documentation and Technology

Heritage Preservation enhances the identity of communities, as it clarifies the values and the attributes of the heritage element whether the tangible or the intangible. Further, heritage documentation is one of the sustainable methods to achieve heritage preservation and safeguarding.

Using technology contributes to implementing documentation processes with high degrees of accuracy, such as the documentation through of 3D modeling by using photogrammetry techniques, which contribute to obtaining qualitative information for a site or artifacts through images and displaying it in three dimensions.

VRAHA Project's Goals

The project will provide 3D model for research institutions, universities and ministries, to facilitate the processes of documentation, monitoring, inventory, restoration, mapping, urban studies and architectural documentation in an electronic way that facilitates access to information and facilitates the processes of sustaining information preservation.

The Virtual Reconstruction of Architectural Heritage in Alexandria (VRAHA) project contributes to displaying a group of sites, buildings, and heritage artifacts in the city of Alexandria in 3D. The project aims to:

  1. Create a 3D model of buildings and heritage artifacts through photogrammetry.
  2. Study the effects and deterioration of buildings through photogrammetry techniques.
  3. Present and interpret heritage for specialists and general groups.
  4. Use non-destructive techniques to document and preserve heritage.
  5. Display a heritage building and an artifact from Alexandria using photogrammetry technology.
  6. Interpret the virtual heritage on the sustained Raquda Foundation’s website.
  7. Use geographic information systems techniques GIS in documentation of building heritage through mapping.
  8. Document the values and heritage features of the building and heritage objects in Alexandria
The VRAHA Project's Initial Focus

The sub-grant will enable the opening of the first digital platform to publish the project’s productions and help complete operations to open companies with decision makers, universities, and ministries that began in 2021. It will also help complete some of the devices required to continue the 3D architectural documentation and urban study processes.
